I wasn't happy with my dining room table....
It was round, dark oak, and although I had white chairs
And a beautiful lace tablecloth.....it was still dark wood.
Even I cannot paint beautiful wood....just the ugly stuff
That has lost it's life and beauty along the way.
When I came across this wonderful farm type table in a past
Issue of Country Living....well, I was in love.
After reading the article, I found this was actually Rachael Ashwell's table.
I'm assuming it was actually old, but it didn't matter to me....
I wanted one like it.....this was what I had been searching for.
I hung the picture on the fridge for several months.
I showed it to my sweet man....he said he could do it.
I keep enforcing the fact I wanted old wood used.
You know, scraps we had and the more beat up the better.
He didn't get that part, but he never has :)
Still, he followed my lead and built me what I had envisioned.
I have gathered mismatched chairs and
Still have to paint them various colors of white,
But, it is still the look I wanted.
Perfect for big family dinners
With no fear of water marks or damage
As this just makes it look better and better.
I'm also in the process of switching china cabinets and wall decor,
So the entire room results will come later....
For now, I'm just lovin' my table.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your table!! It is fantastic- my sons helped me to build a huge farmhouse table last summer for our outside patio area. This winter, I brought it in the house and painted it white and LOVE it there!! Great job on it- thanks for sharing at FNF! :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great table!
I some days really want to paint mine white....then I just can't.......then.........maybe I could get another table, I could have two........
It is indeed beautiful! I recently found an old table I'm using as a kitchen island. I couldn't bear to paint it either. I have an old washtub with plants in it next to it that I found the same day.

Hello! I found your blog on At the Picket Fence and I'm a new follower. Your table is beautiful and even better, it was made by your man. I love all of your fur babies. All of our pets are rescue animals too. Come visit me at

Your table looks fantastic. I was just studying it and thinking - hey maybe we could make ourselves a dining room table. Don't you just love how that inspiration gets passed on from one person to the next. I can see many happy meals around your new table.
ReplyDeleteSimply love your table!
ReplyDeleteI'm your latest follower. Great blog!
I love, love, love that table. You have a sweet hubby.
ReplyDeleteI saw that table too and loved it. Although mine is a dark long country farm table I will keep my dark. What I am looking for though is two Frenchy type cane chairs to paint creamy white and put at either end to replace the country farm chairs. The dark country farm chairs will then go in the family room...Always moving..always changing. Love your blog! Miles of Smiles ~ Lynn
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful job on that table! It is really perfect. Looks great in your dining area. Thanks for linking it up!
